Single Parent – Doing Things for You

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

As a single parent, it is important to do something for you.

I know it seems that there is so much to do there isn’t time for what you like to do. However, it is very important that you carve out some time for things you like. You can use your journal to come up with a list for you. Include on your list, hobbies, time with friends, time alone as well as time with the kids.

After you have completed the list, create a schedule to do them. Doing this keeps you from burning out. It also models to your children how to care for themselves.

Here’s a few of mine:
Read a good book when the house is quiet
Paint watercolor
Play the guitar
Watch a favorite movie
Dinner with friends
Going to the park with the kids

Post a comment on some things you’d like to be doing.

Here is a tip to calm the situation and lower your stress level.

Keep calm –

You can choose your attitude.  This can go a long way in setting the tone for the results you get.  This new response may not get you the results you want initially.  However, be persistent, the peace you bring to yourself will be worth the transition.

You don’t have to live a life full of high emotions and high tensions. Try this tip and see what happens.

Single Parent – A Little about Me

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Thanks  for stopping by!

I am Laura C. Ries.  I am a single parent with 3 kids.  In 2000, I became a single parent for the second time.  Sometimes relationships don’t work out and its best to let go and move on.

As a single parent who worked, sometimes more than one job, I had limited time with my kids and I wanted to do activities with them when we could and create memories we’d all enjoy.
I wanted the divorces to have minimal impact on them and how they viewed life and themselves.

What are your focusing on in your life? I’d like to know.
